Minimization and Reporting
 II-VI Incorporated and its divisions and subsidiaries manufacture
products ranging from amber-colored lenses that focus intense laser
light, to radiation detectors for nationwide security and nuclear
medicine, to high power electrical and microwave components. The
company is headquartered in Pennsylvania and maintains manufacturing
facilities, distributors, and agents worldwide. Environmental risk
management is primary objective of the corporation with waste
minimization and regulatory compliance a major focus.
Nestor Resources provided support to the company in organizing an
interdepartmental waste minimization team. Members were
provided with training on the Pennsylvania Residual and Hazardous
Waste Management Regulations and requirements for source reduction
strategies. In addition, Nestor Resources helped the company
identify waste resulting from specific manufacturing processes;
organized a system to track and monitor chemical analyses for each
process waste and attainment of waste minimization goals; developed
source reduction strategies and produced the residual and hazardous
waste reports.
